18 May 2013: The confirmation of Queen Margrethe II’s eldest grandchild, Prince Nikolai, in Frederiksborg Palace Church. The confirmation was overseen by the Royal Family’s confessor and personal priest, Bishop Erik Norman Svendsen. Among the attendants were: Prince Joachim, his father; Countess Alexandra, his mother; Prince Felix and Prince Henrik, his brother; Princess Marie, his stepmother; Martin Jørgensen, his stepfather; Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik, his paternal grandparents; Christina Manley, his maternal grandmother; Nicola Baird, his maternal aunt; Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, his paternal uncle and aunt; and Prince Christian and Princess Isabella, his paternal cousins. All five of his godparents: Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex; Crown Prince Frederik; Nicola Baird; Peter Steenstrup; and Camilla Flint, were also all present. After the reception, the proud grandparents, Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik, hosted a luncheon at Frederiksborg Palace.

GUILLAUME AND STÉPHANIE:

Personally, I think that their children (or firstborn, at least) will have five names. It’s a good mix of Guillaume and his brothers’ four names and Henri and Alexandra’s six names. :

  • Philippe Charles Jean Marie Guillaume
  • Charles Henri Félix Jean Marie
  • Marie-Charlotte Joséphine Alix Thérèse Wilhelmine

(For potential younger siblings, I guess that some of these names will be used as first names: Léopold, Maximilien, Frédéric, Amélie, Béatrice and Antoinette).

ALBERT AND CHARLENE:

I think Albert and Charlene’s children (if they have any) are gonna receive three names, but they could potentially get four names like Albert:

  • Rainier Albert Maxence
  • Charles Louis Rainier
  • Antoine Florestan Michel
  • Grace Caroline Lynette
  • Antoinette Louise Patricia
  • Marie-Louise Grace Hippolyte

Name predictions/musings/overthinking for Baby Cambridge (#2)

A couple of weeks ago I made a post about this, and I predicted that they might call their baby either:

  • Alexander Charles Arthur Philip or Arthur Charles Philip Francis
  • Matilda Caroline Anne Elizabeth or Eleanor Caroline Philippa Elizabeth

Firsts: I’m still very set on Matilda and Eleanor, they’re modern and beautiful names with historic and wonderful namesakes (Empress Matilda/Australia - Waltzing Matilda - and Eleanor of Aquitaine). Actually, I’d go as far as saying that I am quite proud of my suggestions.

A boys name is much, much harder though. The majority of the “royal” boys names have already been used by other family members (even Alexander (the Earl of Ulster) and Arthur (Arthur Chatto), hell - even George is used (the Earl of St. Andrews)). Basically, the names of past Kings not already in use are:

  • Æthelstan
  • Edmund (2)
  • Eadred
  • Eadwig
  • Edgar (2)
  • Sweyn (Svend)
  • Æthelred
  • Canute (Knud)
  • Harold (Harald; 2)
  • Harthacanute (Hardeknud)
  • Stephen
  • John

I am fairly certain that we can count out all the vikings (Sweyn, Canute, Harold and Harthacanute), the unpronounceable (Æthelstan, Eadred and Eadwig) and the ones with bas associations (Stephen (of Blois, horrid and throne-stealing person) and John (considered unlucky by many, perhaps because a lot of the John’s in the BRF have had pretty unfortunate fates; however, I personally get associations to Robin Hood when I hear “Prince John”, so I’m gonna count that out too)). That leaves Edmund and Edgar; and to be quite frank with you all, looking at those names make me think that there’s a very big possibility for William and Catherine to widening the field by choosing a name already in use. “Royal” names already in use:

  • Charles
  • William
  • Henry
  • Andrew
  • Edward
  • James
  • David
  • Arthur
  • Richard
  • Alexander
  • George
  • Albert
  • Frederick

Now, I also think there are names we can count out there: family members too close to Baby Cambridge (Charles, William, Henry, Andrew and James (however wonderful a name that would be, there are three James’s in the family)), the quick reader will notice that I have left out Edward. The reason why I have left out Edward is that I actually think it’s a really likely name (the amount of Kings named Edward is insane and it’s a rather timeless name) - however many Edwards there might be in the family (3). Basically, that leaves Edward, Arthur, Richard, Alexander, George and Frederick (I am counting out David (because of Viscount Linley (and Lady Sarah Chatto) is so close to the immediate family)).

I’m leaning more and more towards Albert, actually. It was the real name of HM’s beloved father and it’s not as old-fashioned as George. So, my (new) guesses for a boy are either Edward, Arthur, Albert or Alexander.
