The Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara, made for Queen Mary in 1913/1914 after inspiration from a tiara owned by her grandmother, Princess Augusta of Hesse. Consisting of eighteen swinging pearls, the Lover’s Knot also originally had upright pearls on top of the nineteen diamond arches, which Mary eventually had removed. After Mary’s death in 1953, she passed the tiara to her granddaughter Queen Elizabeth II who herself gave it to no other than our Princess Diana of Wales as a wedding present. Diana, although looking lovely with the Lover’s Knot, opted for the lighter-weight Spencer Tiara. After the divorce it was returned to Her Majesty. The tiara is currently held by Queen Elizabeth II.
